Gutermann Maraflex is a specialist elastic sewing thread designed for use with household sewing machines. Using Gutermann's unique Micro Core Technology® (MCT), Maraflex creates flexible seams using a standard straight stitch – without the need for an overlock or coverlock sewing machine.

With up to 80% seam stretch, Maraflex is particularly useful when sewing stretch fabrics, close-fitting garments, necklines, cuffs and other areas where the finished seam needs to move with the fabric.

Available in 40 carefully selected colours, each spool contains 150 metres of thread, giving you plenty of thread for individual garments and sewing projects.

What Is Gutermann Maraflex?

Gutermann Maraflex is an elastic sewing thread developed specifically to create flexible seams when using a household sewing machine.

Unlike conventional sewing thread, Maraflex has a particularly high degree of stretch. This allows a straight-stitched seam to move with the fabric, making it especially useful for garments and other projects where flexibility is important.

Thanks to Gutermann's Micro Core Technology®, Maraflex can be sewn using a conventional straight stitch. This makes it a useful option if you don't have an overlocker or coverlock machine but still want to create flexible seams in stretch fabrics.

Maraflex can be used in both the needle and bobbin, helping to create an elastic seam throughout the construction of the garment.

Recommended Sewing Machine Needles

For best results, Gutermann recommends using Maraflex with a suitable stretch-type needle:

• Jersey Needle: NM 70–80

• Stretch Needle: NM 70–80

• Super Stretch Needle: NM 70–80

Always select the needle type and size appropriate for the fabric you are sewing.

Choosing the Right Thread Colour

Choosing a thread colour that closely matches your fabric can make a big difference to the finished result.

For seams, select a Maraflex colour that is as close as possible to the main colour of your fabric. For topstitching or decorative stitching, you may instead want to choose a contrasting shade.
